Professor Ashok Pandey, the winner of the most coveted award of Distinguished Fellow from the BRSI had his school and college education in Kanpur and PhD from Allahabad. He has been a highly ‘workaholic’ person from the early days of his research career. He completed his PhD degree in just 28 months which was a record (in terms of time) and had published nine papers from the thesis. Among several of his great contributions, creation and establishment of Centre for Biofuels at CSIR-NIIST, Trivandrum, with two pilot plants has been a unique contribution.
Professor Pandey has been a great visionary. With deep thoughts and plans, it is he who established the Biotech Research Society, India (BRSI; www.brsi.in) in 2003 and also established the International Bioporcessing Association- An international forum on industrial bioprocesses (IBA-IFIBiop, www.ifibiop.org), (HQ France). BRSI is the most active scientific professional society dedicated to biotechnologists in India
and has provided a unique platform for networking and collaboration to its members for partnership in India and with other countries. BRSI offers an interdisciplinary platform for the researchers and industries as well as to policy planners bringing experts from biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, chemical and biochemical engineering, environmental science and engineering and also from other areas of life sciences and biological engineering. IBA has members from 32 countries and has a similar agenda as that of BRSI.
