Covaxin has received Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliance certificate from The National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (OGYÉI), Hungary, the vaccine maker said on Thursday in a tweet.
The National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (OGYÉI) is appointed by the Government Decree as a licensing authority for pharmaceutical and public administrational matters. The main activity of OGYÉI is to provide the public with safe, effective and quality medicines in accordance with the regulations. OGYÉI is the national organization of official drug controlling tasks and it is also the methodical and research institute of Hungary.
With this approval, Bharat Biotech achieved another significant milestone in innovating and manufacturing vaccines at global quality standards and moving forward in the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, read Bharat Biotech statement.
This is not a great achievement because COVAXIN should have got approval from WHO by now. It is not the first time Bharat Biotech has made a vaccine, they are operating from last 25 years and have several drugs in their portfolio, said a Biotech Express reader over phone.
